BEFORE THE FIRST CONVERSATION
Turn inspiration into information you can share.
Use these notes to organise questions and references. They do not set material specifications, structural criteria, construction methods or a promise of service availability.
01 / THE IDEA
Describe the intent behind a reference.
A useful reference is more than an image. Note what you respond to: the subject, silhouette, scale, mood or relationship between forms. Separate essential features from details that are still open.
- What should the sculpture communicate?
- Which features matter most?
- What approximate scale are you considering?
Keep drawings and images together with these notes. Do not assume that a photographed finish or material is already agreed for your project.

Give the location a place in the brief.
Describe where the sculpture is intended to sit and how people will encounter it. Available photographs, plans and access information can help identify questions that need further review.
- Where will viewers approach and pause?
- What dimensions and surroundings are known?
- Which site constraints still need checking?
Record unknowns instead of filling them with assumptions. Structural, foundation and installation decisions require project-specific review by the assigned qualified professionals.

Make the next decision clear.
Identify who needs to review the idea and which information they require. Keep the approved version of each reference distinguishable from earlier drafts, and record questions that remain unresolved.
- Who confirms the visual direction?
- Who reviews technical and site questions?
- What information is needed for the next discussion?
Use the Contact checklist to organise the brief. It is a preparation guide, not a guarantee of a quotation, production slot or delivery arrangement.
